An Introduction to Audiology Course
Audiology is an extended realm of clinical science and technology that mainly revolves around the study of hearing and vestibular systems. As a professional domain in Healthcare, the goal of this clinical practice is to prevent, assess, diagnose, counsel, manage, treat and rehabilitate the auditory and balance disorders and their side effects. The professional care provided by an audiologist, spans from a newly born child to an elderly adult and therefore it requires specific approaches, suitable for any of these age groups, which further highlights the importance of academic and professional training to achieve those goals. Furthermore teamwork and interdisciplinary approaches can serve the people who are restrained due to the multiple disabilities, whether it be on personal or social level. The use of new technologies in auditory and vestibular evaluation, diagnosis and rehabilitation along with the utilization of amplifying systems and devices that enhance auditory function, such as hearing aids and other hearing assisting devices has created an exclusive span for this course.
School of rehabilitation in Tabriz University of Medical Sciences has started its audiology bachelor courses since 2015, by accepting 10 eligible students. We aim for professional education so that not only graduates can provide proper care to those who have been effected by auditory and vestibular disorders, but also they can do their part in educating the society about hearing and vestibular health. In following this goal, our educational efforts, researches and intervention programs focus on training a group of dedicated and professional auditory clinical specialists that are based in West and Northwest of Iran, hence our projects are programed and conducted accordingly.
